INTERIOR SHUTTERS

Many people believe that by installing plantation type window shutters that that will solve all noise and window related problems. In reality they do very little, simply because of the way they are constructed. Shutters can never be tightly closed. The reason is the many gaps in between the slats, that prevents them from completely sealing shut. This creates countless opportunities for leakage and infiltration.

Another down side is the reduction of light allowed into the home during daylight hours. The interior of the home stays very dark and gloomy. And just like people can't see in, you can't see out.  Even though Shutters are pricey and not very acoustic or energy efficient, most are purchased for their aesthetic value.         Back to Top

WINDOW TINTING

Window Tinting is a one dimensional application. It’s easy to understand the impulse to tint windows during the summer months. It decreases solar gain into the home the few hours that the angle or pitch of the sun is just right. However, one of the most frequent comments we hear from homeowners that tinted their windows is; “I wish we had never done it”. It was OK in the summer, but as soon as fall and winter rolled around, and the angle of the sun changed, our rooms stayed dark all the time. “It’s like living in a cave”.

Let’s be perfectly clear. Tinting the glass portion of a window does not do anything to the window framing. Tinting the glass will NOT STOP conduction, air infiltration, winter drafts, noise leakage, condensation, sound amplification.  Glass tinting does NOT create a thermal break for Insulating purposes or a buffer zone for Noise Suppression.

Another thing to be aware of, Even though people can’t see in during the day, the exact opposite is true at night. At night you can’t see out when the lights are on, but people can see in. You have to remember to close the blinds for privacy.              Back to Top

REPLACEMENT WINDOWS

Most people are smart enought to realize they don't need to replace their windows, if the windows are NOT FALLING APART. People start thinking of replacement windows when they begin experiencing window related problems; such as unexplainable winter drafts and chills, home staying hotter in summer, loud neighbors or barking dogs, excessive dust and pollen infiltration, and of course higher utility bills, Obviously homeowners are desperate to solve their window related problems. Usually the first thing that comes to mind is window replacement. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AWARE OTHER REMEDIES ARE AVAILABLE to THEM!  There are many unexpected problems associated with replacement windows.

INSIDE MOUNTED CLIMATIZERS THE ALTERNATIVE TO REPLACEMENT WINDOWS

This sensible and innovative interior window weatherization concept was conceived over 30 years ago and is designed and engineered exclusively for existing homes. To start off with, Climatizers do not transfer heat or cold like aluminum or amplify sound waves.

This now makes it possible to make your present windows more energy efficient, acoustically sound, and improve your home’s year around comfort “without” hazardous demolition, tear out mess, or expense of replacement windows.

This inventive system can be installed to the interior of any age home, regardless if they

have double or single pane windows.  More than 2/3 of Climatizers are installed in homes that

already have Double Pane windows!  Astonishingly some of these homes are but a few

months old.                                                                                                                 Back to Top

SOLAR SCREENS

Solar screens provide no relieve for noise pollution. Provide no winter Insulating value or help with air leakage or dust infiltration. They are a summer only item.

They reduce sunlight into the home, like glass tinting they also darken the interior. But unlike glass tinting it is not a permanent installation and they can be removed come fall or winter when the angle of the sun has changed.           Back to Top

STORM WINDOWS

A storm window is another window that is screwed on to the exterior of your present windows. The majority are made out of aluminum. They do provide some insulation value. The problem is piggy backing aluminum to aluminum.

Without a doubt the biggest dilemma associated with storm windows is cleaning. Storm windows become your first line of defense, so when it rains that water has to drain out. Storm windows have holes at the bottom that are called weeper holes for drainage. The problem is that it’s also an open invitation for little bugs to crawl in.  And where you have bugs, you have spiders. Cobwebs start to form in between. Supposedly you should be able to lift your window and tilt the storm window and bring it into the home to clean. The Problem; the upper panel is usually taller than the bottom one, so there is no way it’s coming in through that smaller opening. Cleanings storm windows is a royal pain.                   Back to Top
